Chlorination and disinfection is an important process for water hygiene and legionella control. ALL new mains pipe work requires chlorination and sampling prior to connection to a water main and the water authority will not allow new connections to be made until this has been carried out.
To maintain water hygiene within buildings it is important to allow for cleaning and chlorination of the water storage tanks on a regular basis and often chlorination of the down services connected to the tanks. This keeps the water clean and also prevent proliferation of legionella and is often one of the first requirements after a legionella risk assessment.
Process water systems require chlorination to maintain water hygiene in food hygiene processes and to prevent legionella in cooling systems such as evaporative cooling towers and evaporative condensors.
